The computer does this by using qubits, which instead of switching between the 1 and 0 state, can be both a 1 and a 0. For example, if you asked a regular computer to solve a maze, the computer would go one route, then if the route failed, it would start over and try a different path. This would repeat until the computer finds an outcome that lets it escape the maze. However, a quantum computer has qubits that act as minicomputers, this allows it to solve the maze faster by letting it go in more than one paths. This can help with processing information faster and improve calculation time.

The idea of quantum computing was first pitched in 1970, but it took until 1980 for the idea to evolve into something that could be build. Physicists Paul Benioff proposed the idea of a quantum Turing machine. In the 2000, the first 5 qubit quantum chip was made. After this, quantum computing took a huge leap. After that there was a 15 qubit, then a 28 qubit, then 512, and finally, a 2048 qubit was made in 2017. In the time that this article has released, there is hopes for a 1 million qubit chip planned by Microsoft.

In the future, this could be the modern computer. This can also be used in other fields like biology, mathematics, theoretical physics, and more.
